Sustainability Manager

Paptic Ltd was founded in 2015 to address one of the most significant global environmental challenges, plastic waste accumulation in the environment. Our new kind of wood-based material challenges plastic, traditional paper, and textiles by combining their best sides.

Our customers, brands, retailers, and converters are in urge to find new packaging materials that can replace plastic in various packaging applications. Paptic® materials are used in e.g., flexible packaging, shopping bags, and e-commerce mailers. For example, Stockmann, Sokos, COS, and are using Paptic® materials in their packaging.

We grow rapidly, and our materials have already been delivered to over 50 countries. Our home base is in Otaniemi, Espoo and currently, we are altogether 30 people working for a sustainable future.


Sustainability is the core and starting point for Paptic as a company, as it was established in 2015 to provide solutions for making a shift towards bio-based and circular economy in packaging. We are “Obliged by Awareness”, which encourages us to gain better, find new ways, and provide solutions for better.

At Paptic, sustainability works seamlessly with strategy, and it is part of every operation, starting from R&D and Innovation, further to sustainable, recyclable packaging materials. We operate responsibly and respectfully within the company as well as with stakeholders and in supply networks.

We are now looking for a Sustainability Manager to strengthen our team’s competencies and take part in driving and implementing our sustainability agenda and developing it further.

In this versatile position, you will play a key role in building Paptic’s sustainable and successful future, as sustainability is the key driver in the market and with stakeholders with whom we collaborate. The Sustainability Manager will work closely with all functions, such as quality, operations, R&D, HR, and communications. The position holder will especially be responsible for advancing social responsibility and supplier sustainability at the company and with the stakeholders. The position holder will participate in internal and external development projects with a strong sustainability contribution, will be active in networks representing Paptic, and will also actively follow evolving discussions and criteria around sustainability.

The position holder will report to our Chief Sustainability Officer Hanna Kalliomäki. The position is permanent and located in Otaniemi, Espoo, Finland. Hybrid work is possible. The amount of travel days remains at a reasonable level.


  • be responsible for advancing social responsibility and supplier sustainability management, incl. appropriate processes, tools, and systems
  • work comprehensively with sustainability covering all parts of the value chain:
    • sustainable raw materials
    • environmental performance of production
    • Paptic materials that are fit to circular economy
  • work with colleagues from different Paptic functions depending on the topic
  • run independently and actively specific sustainability projects
  • participate in company-wide projects with strong sustainability contributions and know-how
  • be active also in supporting our sales and communications to have up-to-date information and understanding of our sustainability work and the impact we work for.

what helps you to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Forestry, Economics, or Social Sciences
  • experience in relevant positions within sustainability (appr. 5-8 years), especially in social responsibility and supplier sustainability
  • experience and ability to actively advance new topics in the company and understand the role of external stakeholders in the development of sustainability
  • experience in the development, training, and implementation of sustainability tools, processes, and requirements
  • proven ability to plan, drive and execute tasks independently and at the same time in cooperation with colleagues
  • continuous improvement and result-oriented mindset
  • good project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize
  • internal motivation to pay attention to details and accuracy of facts and figures
  • tolerance to work under pressure occasionally while appreciating work-life balance
  • fluent in written and spoken English, and Finnish. Other language skills are appreciated.
