We made a commitment to ensure that no sea turtle would ever eat a STPL package for lunch – An interview with STPL
STPL, a clothing brand, whose approach to fashion fuses a luxury mentality with conscious values has made the shift to Paptic® in their e-commerce business.
STPL, a forerunner in sustainability and quality, describes that being ethical is their duty as they strive to create amazing products with the least amount of impact on the environment.
We decided to interview David Biren the Co-Founder at STPL, to better understand why they chose Paptic®.
Hi David! I know your packaging has gone through an evolution lately. Can you elaborate on how your packaging has changed?
David: When we launched STPL in 2019 our packaging was slightly different to our packing today. Our original recyclable boxes are still the same but our mailers (The large envelope which goes into our STPL box) did not meet our sustainability requirements. As four avid environmentalists, we made a commitment to ensure that no sea turtle would ever eat a STPL package for lunch, so we had no choice but to look for an alternative.
And you were even thinking about compostable plastic mailers?
David: We went back to the drawing board to search high and low for an alternative. There were many different options including compostable mailers, on further examination many of these sustainable alternatives were not sustainable at all. For example, compostable mailers are great but only if one has a machine that can process them. Unfortunately, not many waste disposal sites have the capacity to recycle them and so they end up in landfill.
It was after many red herrings and dead ends that we came across Paptic®.
So, I think you have come to the same conclusion as us that composting is a safety measure, but recycling is the most sustainable way to dispose of the packaging.
David: Yes!
And the touch and feel of Paptic® is in line with your brand?
David: For sure! We wanted a sustainable package, but we also wanted to have something unique that differentiates us from the crowded clothing market. We want our customers to experience a luxury brand experience and Paptic® has that premium feel that aligns with our brand.
“We wanted a sustainable package, but we also wanted to have something unique that differentiates us from the crowded clothing market.“
So, you are using Paptic® in your e-commerce mailers?
David: Yes, we use it for our mailers. Our t-shirt goes into the Paptic® mailer which we put inside a cardboard box.
Is it almost like a polybag replacement then?
David: Yes! We really wanted to have the whole package easily recyclable in the same recycling bin. Making the experience super easy for our customers. And with the Paptic® mailers reusing them in returns is also effortless for our customers.
Thank you for taking the time for this interview David! Anything you still want to add?
David: Well, I think the amount of effort that has gone into creating a truly sustainable product is incredible. And for us, it has been a cost-effective solution! Thank you to the whole Paptic team!
Thank you, David!
